the setting
Casa Savitri is located in the heart of the historical center of Palermo, close to the seafront and attractions while being surrounded by authentic restaurants, bars and night life.
Below you will find a couple of suggestions all within 5 min walk from the apartment. More recommendations are shared with our guests.
the new seafront
5 min walk from the apartment, you will find the recently opened Palermo harbour, officially known as the Palermo Marina Yachting, which offers all of the 21st century convenience that one might be missing in the ancient city of Palermo. With high-end coffee-cocktail bars, restaurants and ice cream shops (gelateria), this is the perfect spot to be when the sun sets behind the surrounding mountain range.
the vintage flea market
If you’re into secondhand vintage clothing make sure to check for the next Sfrido market. The organizer is the cafe and store OJDÅ located at Piazza Aragona, which is visible from the round window in camera Sole. Most often, the events are taking place on this square.
As there are no fixed dates for this market you will have to keep yourself updated on future events announced on their Instagram profile.
the antique flea market
A stone’s throw away from the apartment is Piazza Marina. This beautiful square is known for its large markets, Mercantino Antiquario, on Sundays: a cross between flea and antique furniture market. Dozens of vendors distribute weekly across the square from 7 a.m. to midday. If you are on the look for beautiful ceramics, vintage clothing, jewelry, or anything in between, make sure to visit the Sunday market at Piazza Marina. We recommend starting your treasure hunt with a coffee and cornetto at either Bar del Corso or Bar Luca, which are loved by both locals and visitors.
the strangler tree
In the middle of Piazza Marina lies a beautiful garden, Giardino Garibaldi, which is home to Europe’s oldest fig tree. Planted in 1863, the 32m tall Ficus Macrophylla is absolutely spectacular both in terms of size and appearance. Apart from the enormous roots protruding from the ground, the fig is known for its numerous hanging roots that span from the tree canopy into the soil, providing support for the canopy to reach further out into the sunlight.
Make sure to visit this garden and watch this short video explaining how special this tropical tree is.
